Shopping in "old Sofia"

This ablum shows photos of what it's like to take Sofia public transport to downtown Sofia to do some shopping in the center of "old Sofia" Going shopping to downtown Sofia from the city's outskirts is slow but cheap! A Sofia transit ticket with tram/bus transfers costs 80 Bulgarian stratinki (60 U.S. cents). The older shopping areas in the center of Sofia have enclosed shopping areas in older buildings as well as (except for winter) outdoor food, clothing, and homegoods markets. Produce is fresh from the fields, and some meats are fresh from the butcher. The "Women's Market" open-air market has been in existence for probably several centuries. It's a reminder that Bulgaria is still unchanged in many ways in contrast to other former countries formerly a part of the Soviet Union.
